Alongside Lear, Be Smart, DIW Berlin, and University of East Anglia, Fideres has been appointed by DG COMP to carry out a collection of key qualitative and quantitative information on all European Commission merger decisions. This project aims at building a comprehensive database that would enable DG COMP to produce statistical reports which could serve as input to DG COMP’s decision-making practice in relation to EU merger control, both for operational and for policy purposes.
The database will include all the most relevant information of each merger decision, including basic information, aspects related to market definition, the competitive concerns and theories of harm formulated by the Commission, the competitive assessment carried out by the Commission, and the characteristics of the remedies. Parts of such data, in aggregated form, could also be published by the Commission and used for communication purposes.
