ANTÓNIO NETO

António Neto holds a PhD and a BA from the University of Porto, Portugal. António has extensive experience on competition policy and regulatory impact assessment. He is used to conduct rigorous economic analysis to identify competitive harm and consumer welfare loss arising from legal and regulatory provisions, while searching for the relevant case studies, international evidence and economic literature to support policy recommendations.

Before joining Fideres, António was a Consultant at Technopolis, a leading policy consulting firm in the UK, where he worked on a variety of monitoring and evaluations projects for the European Commission, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Innovate UK and the Royal Academies. He also worked at the World Bank and spent almost four years at the OECD Competition Division, where he participated in two Competition Assessment Reviews.

António has experience applying econometric and data science tools in both industrial organisation and macroeconomic research, exploring and organising large datasets and writing policy papers for policy makers and general audience. He has written several reports and policy papers within a variety of sectors (e.g., construction, liberal professions, tourism, transportation) and has published many papers in academic journals (e.g., Applied Economic Letters and Macroeconomic Dynamics). He also trained BEIS analysts in the application of counterfactual methodologies and he is currently a part-time Teaching Assistant at the University College London.
